The Feature Pack 2 for SharePoint Server 2016 is out and delivers only one new feature: The SharePoint Framework (SPFx) which originally released in February (general availability) in Office 365. The SharePoint Framework is a page and web part model that provides full support for client-side SharePoint development and easy integration with SharePoint data. It also supports the use of open source tools with REST-based APIs and provides the ability to build modern experiences and apps on SharePoint that are responsive and mobile-ready.

What’s not included in Feature Pack 2?
Against all rumors the following features are definitively not pushed to on-premises with the SharePoint Server 2016 Feature Pack 2:

  • «Modern» experience
  • Communication Sites

The Feature Pack 2 contains all the features that shipped with Feature Pack 1. It’s not necessary to install Feature Pack 1 first. The Feature Pack 2 is also included in all future Public Updates for SharePoint Server 2016, beginning with the September 2017 Public Update.
