The Microsoft support for SharePoint 2013 RTM has ended

By April 14, 2015 the Microsoft support for SharePoint 2013 RTM has ended. If you're servers are still running on SharePoint 2013 RTM you have to update them to SharePoint 2013 with Service Pack 1 to receive new updates and technical support by Microsoft. The general Microsoft mainstream support for SharePoint 2013 with the latest service pack is ending on April 10, 2018.

SharePoint 2016 key enhancements and new capabilities

Earlier this year, Microsoft shared its vision about SharePoint Server 2016. Today, Microsoft confirmed that SharePoint Server 2016 will become available in Q2 2016. The public beta of SharePoint Server 2016 is planned for Q4 2015. Microsoft stated to envision a future with a combination of customers wit on-premises, cloud and hybrid deployments for many years to come.

In SharePoint Server 2016 Microsoft is focused on delivering value to customers as part of their on-premises deployments and making it easier to take advantage of cloud innovation thru hybrid deployments at the same time. Enhancements and new capabilities are planned in those three major areas:

  • Improved user experiences
  • Cloud-inspired infrastructure
  • Compliance and reporting

Microsoft will share more detail at the Microsoft Ignite in Chicago.
