I’ve been awarded as top 25 European SharePoint influencer

For the second time harmon.ie was asking the European SharePoint community to elect their most influential community leaders in Europe. During the European SharePoint Conference the results were announced and I'm really honored to be awarded as one of the top 25 European SharePoint Community influencers and as the #1 community influencer in Switzerland.

Service Pack 1 für SharePoint Server / Foundation 2013

Eine neue Version des Service Pack 1 (SP1) für SharePoint Server 2013 wurde am 23. April 2014 durch Microsoft veröffentlicht. Nachstehende Informationen beziehen sich ausschliesslich auf die neuste Version.

Das Service Pack 1 für SharePoint Server 2013, SharePoint Foundation 2013, SharePoint Designer 2013 und Office Web Apps Server 2013 wurden auf Grund eines Fehlers, welcher das Einspielen künftiger Public Updates sowie Cumulative Updates verhindert, zurückgezogen. Nicht betroffen von diesem Fehler sind integrierte SharePoint mit SP1 Installationsmedien (besser bekannt als "Slipstream"). Weitere Infos folgen, sobald das SP1 wieder freigegeben wurde.

Das Service Pack 1 für SharePoint 2013 wurde veröffentlicht. Es enthält verbesserte Kompatibilität für Windows 8.1 und Internet Explorer 11, die Unterstützung von Windows Server 2012 R2 sowie die Integration von OneDrive for Business und Yammer. Das Service Pack 1 enthält zudem alle Cumulative Updates (CU) und Public Updates (PU) sowie zahlreiche Fixes seit dem Erscheinen der RTM Version von SharePoint 2013.

Gut zu wissen
Das Service Pack 1 kann direkt auf die RTM Version installiert werden. Das Public Update March 2013 muss nicht vorinstalliert ist.

Die wichtigsten Änderungen im Service Pack 1 für SharePoint 2013

  • Kompatibilität mit Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Verbesserte Kompatibilität mit Windows 8.1
  • Verbesserte Kompatibilität mit Internet Explorer 11
  • OneDrive für Unternehmen (SkyDrive Pro)
  • Unterstützung für OData JavaScript Object Notation (JSON)
  • Unterstützung von Yammer als Social Network, einfacheres Ersetzen des Default Newsfeeds

Das Service Pack 1 enthält alle Public und Cumulative Updates bis und mit Dezember 2013. Zudem enthält es zahlreiche zusätzliche Fixes, welche Microsoft in einer Excel-Tabelle veröffentlicht hat.
Das nächste Cumulative Update ist ein Post SP1 CU und erfordert die Installation von SharePoint Server 2013 Service Pack 1.

Installationsanleitung

  • Erstellen Sie vor der Installation des Service Packs ein SharePoint Farm Backup.
  • Laden Sie das SharePoint Server 2013 Service Pack 1 resp. das SharePoint Foundation 2013 Service Pack 1
  • IISAdmin, SPTimerV4 und Search Service stoppen (in dieser Reihenfolge), sofern diese auf dem Server gestartet sind.
  • Führen Sie die heruntergeladene EXE-Datei (z.B. officeserversp2013-kb2817429-fullfile-x64-en-us.exe) mit administrativen Rechten aus.
  • Starten Sie den Server neu.
  • Wiederholen Sie die beiden vorherigen Schritte auf jedem SharePoint Server in der Farm.
  • Sobald das Service Pack auf allen Servern installiert wurde, führen Sie nacheinander auf jedem SharePoint Server den SharePoint 2013 Products Configuration Wizard oder den Befehl psconfig –cmd upgrade –inplace b2b -wait aus.
  • Prüfen Sie den aktuellen Build Level der SharePoint Farm: SharePoint 2013 Management Shell > (get-spfarm).buildversion (mind. 15.0.4569.1000)

Wichtige Information für Kunden, die das alte Service Pack 1 installiert haben
Laden Sie das neue Service Pack 1 für ihr Produkt herunter und installieren Sie das neue Service Pack 1 auf allen Servern über das alte Service Pack 1. Starten Sie anschliessend auf jedem Server nacheinander den Configuration Wizard.
Wurde das Service Pack 1 in Form einer Slipstream Installation von einem ISO File (z.B. SharePoint Server 2013 with SP1 von MSDN / MPN / VLSC) eingespielt, dann muss nichts unternommen werden, da diese Volumes von diesem Fehler nicht betroffen sind.

Information regarding SharePoint 2013 SP1 and CU April 2014

The SharePoint 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1) has been re-released. Please read Service Pack 1 für SharePoint Server 2013 for further information.

There are some confusions around the Service Pack 1 for SharePoint 2013 and the April 2014 Cumulative Update. In this article I'll try to clear some points:

  • On April 3rd Microsoft has retracted the Service Pack 1 for SharePoint Server 2013, SharePoint Foundation 2013, SharePoint Designer 2013 and Office Web Apps Server 2013. Mictosoft stated the following reason for this move in the Service Pack 1 KB article: We have recently uncovered an issue with this Service Pack 1 package that may prevent customers who have Service Pack 1 from deploying future public or cumulative updates.
  • If you already downloaded the Service Pack 1 I would recommend to wait with the installation for the updated Service Pack 1 package.
  • It's no problem at all if you have already installed the Service Pack 1. As explained by Bill Baer Microsoft will release a patch to fix the problem in your SP1 version.
  • "SharePoint with SP1" packages (bettern knwon as "slipstream") are not affected by this issue.
  • Contrary the opinion of some bloggers the April 2014 Cumulative Updates for SharePoint 2013 haven't been released yet. Microsoft published some individual fixes for a couple of SharePoint components. I recommend to wait until the Cumulative Updates are released.

SharePoint 2010 Cumulative Updates: April 2014

Das kumulative SharePoint 2010 Update Paket für April 2014 enthält eine Vielzahl an Hotfixes und Verbesserungen für SharePoint Foundation 2010 resp. SharePoint Server 2010. Das kumulative Update Paket ist mehrsprachig (multilingual) und enthält die entsprechenden Updates für alle Sprachen.

Gut zu wissen
Microsoft hat per 31. August 2011 die Pakete der Cumulative Updates angepasst.
Wenn Sie SharePoint Server 2010 im Einsatz haben, dann installieren Sie direkt das SharePoint Server 2010 Cumulative Update. Dieses beinhaltet neu auch alle Ressourcen von SharePoint Foundation 2010.
Nutzen Sie SharePoint Foundation 2010, dann installieren Sie wie bisher nur das SharePoint Foundation 2010 Cumulative Update.
Vor der Installation dieses Cumulative Updates sollte das Service Pack 2 installiert worden sein, mindestens jedoch das Service Pack 1.

Installationsanleitung

  • Erstellen Sie vor der Installation des Cumulative Updates ein SharePoint Farm Backup
  • Doppelklicken Sie auf die heruntergeladene EXE-Datei (z.B. 471191_intl_x64_zip.exe)
  • Klicken Sie auf Continue
  • Geben Sie einen Pfad an, in den die Installationsdateien entpackt werden sollen und klicken OK
  • Navigieren Sie zum angegebenen Pfad und führen Sie die neu entpackte EXE-Datei (z.B. ubersrv2010-kb2825786-fullfile-x64-glb.exe) mit administrativen Rechten aus.
    Achtung beim Verschieben: Neben der EXE-Datei wird auch eine Datei mit dem Namen ubersrv_1.cab entpackt. Beide Dateien müssen im gleichen Verzeichnis liegen.
  • Wiederholen Sie die Installation des Cumulative Updates auf jedem SharePoint Server in der Farm.
  • Sobald die Cumulative Updates auf allen Servern installiert wurden, führen Sie nacheinander auf jedem SharePoint Server den SharePoint Configuration Wizard aus.
  • Starten Sie auf den betroffenen Servern den User Profile Service neu.

I’ve been interviewed by the Microsoft MVP Community

1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a 29 years old consultant, blogger and Microsoft MVP on SharePoint Server based in Bern, Switzerland. I’m one of the community leaders of SharePointCommunity.ch, founder of the biggest regional SharePoint community in Switzerland (www.sharepointmittelland.ch) and author of the well-known SharePoint blog TechTask.com. I primarily focus on architecture, conception and engineering of SharePoint platforms.

2. What inspired you to be active in the community?
Five years ago, I started to realize that the same problems, which have already been solved, kept coming up in other projects. At this stage I decided to write down those solutions including a short description of the problem. The advantage of publishing them on a blog offered the possibility to share my newly acquired knowledge with my teammates. Over time, I realized that more and more people began to read the blog. This of course incredibly motivated me to post on a regular basis. Since then, TechTask.com has been growing to one of today's best-known SharePoint blogs in German-speaking countries.

3. Brag! Tell us about something great you have been working on lately (either community-related or as a technical expert).
As a consultant, I often work simultaneously on multiple projects. The most interesting one I'm currently working on is the migration of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 to SharePoint Server 2013. This project is thrilling because it involves thousands of users, numerous custom solutions and more than 2.5 TB of data to be migrated. The implementation in due time without affecting operations is certainly the biggest challenge.

4. What is, in your opinion, the greatest advantage of being a Microsoft MVP MEA Community MVP?
As a Microsoft MVP, I‘m even more well-perceived in the community. This allows me to share my knowledge with a bigger audience and collaborate with experts from all over the world.
Because of my efforts in writing blog posts, organizing free community events and speaking at SharePoint conferences, I have the feeling I am giving back to the community members who also benefit from my activities.

5. What would you recommend to people who aspire to be an MVP?
To share knowledge and help others to make their work easier should be a passion of a future Microsoft MVP. That’s the only way you may reach the necessary authenticity and get the attention of the IT community.
